Simple doesn’t mean easy

Simple doesn’t mean easy

We see it time and time again – beginners (and even more those who are more advanced!) new to training, getting caught up in a bunch of stuff that doesn’t matter. Bogging themselves down in the amount of information available to anyone with an internet connection. Don’t major in the minors!

The vast majority of your progress will come from the fundamentals. Not some new fangled supplement, not some new fangled program, not some new fangled piece of equipment.

1. Eat enough food.
2. Get enough sleep.
3. Train hard.

Do the fundamentals well, consistently, for years – that’s where progress is made.

1. Track your calories (MyFitnessPal is great, but you can also just eat the same stuff every day to keep things simple). Not gaining weight? Add more. Not losing weight? Take some out.
2. 7-8 hours
3. This is the most subjective one on the list. Don’t sacrifice good form, but make sure you aren’t wasting time in the gym. You’re there for a reason.

That’s as complex as it needs to be for a year or two. Hell, sometimes even longer. Try out a few programs, follow them to the letter – the whole way through. TO THE LETTER. Find out what works for you through trial and error. Get real experience under the bar, and then you’ll naturally start to ask questions when your bullshit meter goes off.

Save all the money you would have spent on supplements and spend it on food… or join Black Flag 😉
