One of the more sinister training myths out there is that women and men should train differently. You’ve probably seen, or maybe tried, countless ‘weight training for women’ workouts from magazines involving body weight movements or very light weights. The thing is, there is no ‘weight training program for women’.
Ladies should be doing heavy lifts just like the guys! Squats, overhead press, deadlifts, pushups, barbell rows – all of these movements are fantastic for men and women alike. Discovering how capable you truly are by shifting a weight you never thought you could is tremendously powerful – we see it time and time again at Black Flag Barbell Club.
Many women are afraid of getting too big or looking bulky if they start lifting weights. The reality of the situation is, women don’t have the same hormones floating around that guys do – thus it is *incredibly* difficult for ladies to get bulky. Unless you’re planning on buying ‘special supplements’ off of some guy in a dark alley, you’ve got nothing to worry about and everything to gain!
