Comp Write Up: September 10th Novice & Improvers Powerlifting Meet

What a cracker of a meet that was!

We had 37 lifters on the day, over three flights – the biggest powerlifting comp we’ve run to date. Thanks to our great crew of spot/loaders and volunteers, we were wrapped up by 2:50PM (after a 10AM start). I couldn’t have asked for more from our guys n gals on the day, they did an amazing job – thank you all so much.

There was a lot of talent on the platform last Sunday, with both the male and female winners being over 400 Wilks. We had our first 200kg bench press in one of our meets, which was awesome to see, and once again we had a strong group of ladies crushing it on the platform – plenty of >150kg deadlifts, which is mind blowing. Tell some of those women that lifting makes you bulky, I dare you.

Overall, I believe this was our best powerlifting competition yet. Everything ran well, with no real hiccups on the day.

Our stable of lifters had a great day out, and I’m super proud of all their progress (both in kg on the bar and technique). I think they represented Black Flag Barbell Club amazingly well, couldn’t be more proud of you all.

Ash went 90 (10kg PR) / 50 (2.5kg) / 115 (17.5kg PR) for a 255kg total, although the real PR has been becoming one of da boiz
Big Mitch went 240 / 150 (2.5kg PR) / 225 after a week of night shift and a game of grid iron the night before competition (not recommended, haha)
Alex hit 220 (5kg PR) / 122.5 / 215 despite some back troubles the past few weeks
Judson went 170 (10kg PR) / 117.5 (7.5kg) / 212.5 (7.5kg PR) – this deadlift was a 32.5kg PR over the 12 weeks he has trained with us, awesome job mate
Josh went 137.5 (7.5kg PR) / 117.5 (7.5kg PR) / 147.5 (10kg PR), ninja warrior got nothing on you son
Luke hit 145 (17.5kg PR) / 105 / 200 (20kg PR) with the deadlift being an incredible 65kg PR over the 12 weeks he has trained with us
Damo went 155 (15kg PR) / 147.5 (7.5kg PR) / 160 (10kg PR) with a lot left in the tank, especially once he decides to use mixed grip on deadlifts 😉
Christian hit 160 (20kg PR) / 107.5 (17.5kg PR) / 180 (10kg PR) with a monstrous effort on the day, great work
Jamie went 117.5kg on bench, juuuust missing 122.5kg, and taking 182.5kg on the deadlift due to a stumble on his second attempt.

Massive congratulations to you all – you put in the work and it showed! It was a great feeling to see you all lifting and supporting one another on the day, right in the coach feels.
